Copper Piece Gang logo

The Copper Piece Gang did not choose their name. It was borrowed from a loose youth gang haunting the catacombs beneath Fallcrest — the same tunnels they were sent into to find a missing boy on their second job together. Before that, they were just a handful of people who played cards at the Blue Moon Alehouse and had been quietly training skills they had not quite admitted to needing yet. The first real job was debt collection in the Sorrowmire, a cursed marsh full of will-o'-wisps and things that should not exist. They came back alive, mostly. The name came later, and it fit.

The group that formed around that first job was an unlikely one. Zarnak is a half-orc enforcer who fights with maces and operates on the wrong side of most lines — reliable, dangerous, and always watching for the angle. Rae is a human swordmage who arrived in Fallcrest as an outsider trying to build something, and has since become one of the party's steadiest presences. Shadra is a longtooth shifter seeker driven by the disappearance of her own sister — every rescue mission carries that weight, whether she names it or not. Nucky Nuciano is a halfling bard with sleazy ambition and an improbable talent for turning chaos into opportunity; he is currently somewhere in the City of Brass, winning a bureaucratic argument on the party's behalf. Krovuur, a Shadar-kai invoker who stepped in after Selganth's death, carries his own complicated past and the weight of the space he was asked to fill.

What looked like street-level work had roots that kept going deeper. The catacombs under Fallcrest led them to the Scarlet Citadel — a fortress of undead, alchemical horrors, and memory realms that peeled back things people had been carrying without knowing it. The party paid for every answer they found. Selganth, the hobgoblin ardent who had been there from the beginning, stayed behind in a collapsing memory realm to hold back something that would have taken the rest of them with it. He did not come through. Rae reached back for him at the last moment and failed — a dual sacrifice, Selganth's life and Rae's arm, claimed together as the portal closed. Selûne and Sehanine answered Rae's loss with something strange and particular: a Gelatinous Arm, a divine replacement that has grown in power alongside him ever since.

The story has since found its scale. What began as a missing child in a provincial town now touches the outer edge of the Nine Hells, an artifact called the Nihil Shard, and a prison at the heart of the eighth layer built around a being called the Vitriol Fulcrum. The party has changed in ways small and large — not everyone who started this journey is still walking it. But those who remain have come too far to turn back, and what waits inside the Shardhold of Silence is exactly the kind of thing none of them signed up for in that tavern, three years and forty-nine sessions ago.
