The City of Brass

Infernal City · Planar — Elemental Plane of Fire

The City of Brass sits at the intersection of planar commerce and infernal bureaucracy, a metropolis where the air shimmers with heat and every transaction carries the weight of binding law. It is enormous, heavily policed, and built on the assumption that everyone in it has something to hide and something to lose. The devils and powers that run the city have had centuries to perfect the art of legal entrapment.

The Ashen Ledger — a towering archive containing sealed contracts, legal records, and the sigil of the seventh layer’s rule — sits at the center of the city’s power structure. Getting into it is the kind of problem that requires planning, nerve, and a willingness to improvise when the plan falls apart.

Role in the Campaign

The City of Brass was the setting for one of the campaign’s most elaborate operations. The party arrived with the goal of reaching the Ashen Ledger, and what followed was a multi-session infernal heist that involved navigating the city’s legal and social landscape, playing factions against each other, making deals with figures who definitely had their own agendas, and eventually executing a job that the city’s security apparatus was not designed to expect from people who had walked in the front door.

The escape was not clean. It rarely is. But the party got what they came for and got out, which in the City of Brass counts as a significant victory. The events there set up the political confrontations with Vladyn and the deeper infernal powers that followed, and Nucky’s continued presence in the city — still working his own angles — means the party’s relationship with this place is probably not finished.
