History & Role

Appearance

Drag’os is taller and slimmer than most dwarves — 5’6” and 142 pounds — close enough to a small human that he could pass for one when circumstances call for it. His brown hair carries distinctive dark orange streaks and is braided halfway down his back. His beard is kept short and trimmed, concealing a chin tattoo that only the keenest eyes would notice.

Scale-pattern tattoos follow his hairline down to his temples on both sides, wind around the back of his neck, and continue down the backs of both arms to the elbow. His skin is a light bronze. When he gets excited about a discovery, he cracks his knuckles, stretches his arms out in front of him, and narrows his eyes into a focused squint — a tell he has never bothered to correct.

His eyes are not the hazel he was born with. He lost both eyes and had them replaced with magical gems: a sapphire in the left socket and a diamond in the right. He usually keeps the left eye covered with a fine purple eye patch. The diamond from his right eye he loaned to Bitterstrike, a dragon blinded in an encounter with her lover Ezevon, who betrayed her. Drag’os felt compelled to help her regain some measure of sight — one of many acts of unlikely compassion woven into an otherwise calculating life.

He is partial to purple. He carries a small cloth pouch of that color, passed down from his ancestor Atilli Burlyfingers, that his parents gave him when he set out on his own.

Origins

Drag’os comes from Clan Burlyfingers, a modest mining clan based at Citadel Ghandlmar. His father Dagelok is a blacksmith and expert miner; his mother Isdalara Stonehelm is a jewel crafter of some renown in the region. He is the fourth child — preceded by brothers Thelerium and Atilaarik and sister Einias, all of whom remained part of the family trade.

He is named after his maternal uncle, Drag’osin Stonehelm, who disappeared two years before his birth. Stonehelm had been on a mining expedition when he came across a group of Drow attempting to steal the eggs of an albino black dragon named E’tarot-ce’torp — known as Greyfire. He defeated the Drow party alone and outnumbered. In gratitude, Greyfire offered to take him to her home realm of Terradwoeomer, heal him, and induct him into the Greyfire Templars — an order dedicated to protecting Greyfire and the prophecy surrounding her. Before accepting, Stonehelm asked for one farewell. Greyfire allowed him to visit his sister in a dream and pass down a blessing: she would have one more child, and that child would carry traits like those of a dragon. When the child arrived, the family named him after the uncle, with the name slightly altered to distinguish between them while honoring him. The scale tattoos, the unusual height, the eyes — Drag’os believes these are the outward signs of that inherited blessing, though not all of what it means has yet surfaced.

Psionic Abilities

As a young man, on one of many trips into the mines with his father, Drag’os became separated from the group and encountered a mind flayer. He narrowly escaped — somehow managing to deflect the creature’s attempt to subdue him in a way he could not explain. When he returned home he suffered headaches for several days. After they lifted, he began to discover psionic abilities he had not possessed before. He spent the years that followed learning to control and refine them, coming to believe this was another dimension of his uncle’s gift.

Career

Rather than follow his family into mining or smithing, Drag’os chose to become a bounty hunter at nineteen. The decision was not popular with his family, though his mother had seen it coming and was the only one he had told in advance. The choice suited him: the work rewarded tenacity and the ability to anticipate others, skills he had developed early by spending most of his youth defending himself against dwarves who found his appearance unusual.

His first major job was a recovery mission into the Underdark to retrieve Thunder Horn — a gem-encrusted war hammer forged by his great-great-great grandfather Atilli Burlyfingers as a wedding gift that had cemented an alliance between Clan Burlyfingers and Clan Dragonhammer of Citadel Ghandlmar. The hammer had been stolen in the night, leaving only a wax seal pressed with a palm leaf. Drag’os recovered it. He made his announcement that he was leaving for good shortly after.

Over the course of Campaign 1 — starting from nothing and ultimately reaching the thirtieth level of power — he accumulated titles earned across a decade of adventuring:

  • Defender of Harkenwold
  • Hero of Hammerfast — granted by Marsinda Goldspinner
  • Friend of the Feywild — granted by Tamel the Traveller
  • The Crimson Marauder

He also developed a habit of taking trophies from fallen enemies — small pieces of bone or flesh — collected without a clear explanation for why, only a persistent sense that someday they will matter.

In Battle

Drag’os never backed down. His battle cry — “Bring it!” — became one of the defining sounds of Campaign 1, shouted at enemies ranging from bullywugs to dragons, with equal conviction regardless of the size of the threat. He would wade into danger to protect his companions without hesitation, putting himself between them and whatever was coming.

He also developed a signature approach to certain oversized enemies: if a creature was large enough to swallow him, he considered that an opportunity rather than a problem. More than once he ended up fighting from inside an enemy — bullywugs, dragons, and others — and simply carved his way back out. The strategy was not accidental. He preferred it.

Role in Campaign 3

Drag’os is one of the threads that connects all three campaigns. By the time the Copper Piece Gang encountered him, his own story was long finished — but the things he did in Campaign 1 left marks on the world that Campaign 3 keeps running into.

He and Zevron arrived together in session 30 through a portal into the Scarlet Citadel’s ancient dwarven forge chamber, at a moment when the Gang had just breached the dungeon’s deepest sealed section. He moved straight to the massive golden anvil, read the inscription without hesitation, and worked the forge alongside Zevron — doing something the party could observe but not fully parse, rooted in knowledge from a decade of prior adventure they were not present for.

His reputation preceded him in Red Tower. The town reacted the way frontier towns react when a hero of genuine stature starts asking questions — whatever Drag’os is paying attention to, there is a reason.

He confirmed the seriousness of the Feywild crossing problem to Elara but could not stay to address it himself. He operates on a scale that does not lend itself to staying in one place. His appearances in Campaign 3 are brief, purposeful, and always a signal that something larger is at work.
