Overview
A young dwarf blacksmith from Hammerfast who came to Fallcrest to make his name — and found a friendship with Rae that grew alongside both of their stories.
History & Role

Thrain Emberstrike came to Fallcrest young and eager, leaving the established smithing community of Hammerfast to learn from master blacksmiths in a place where a reputation was still something to be built rather than inherited. It was the kind of decision that takes more nerve than it looks — trading the security of home and a known path for the harder work of proving yourself somewhere new.

That parallel is what drew him and Rae together. Both were working to establish themselves in a place that had not yet decided what to make of them. The friendship that grew from that common ground became one of the steadier threads in Rae’s story — a craftsman who understood what it meant to put serious work into something and wait to see if it held.

Thrain’s contribution to the party is practical and unglamorous: he crafts and maintains weapons and armor, takes on unusual builds that standard smiths will not touch, and extends credit to people he has decided are worth trusting. When the group returned from the Red Tower work in session 31, he was the stop for gear reviews, upgrade discussions, and logistics — and he offered to build level-appropriate equipment with payment deferred, the kind of arrangement that only works between people with an established history.

The most consequential thing he did was mention, in the course of ordinary conversation, that Elara had been urgently looking for the party and that it seemed serious. He passed along the message because that is the kind of person he is — someone who pays attention to the community around him and says something when something needs saying. That single piece of information launched the entire Feywild arc.

He is still in Fallcrest, still at his forge, still building his reputation one piece of work at a time. In a campaign that has since traveled to other planes, the Nentir Vale can feel very far away. Thrain is one of the reasons it still feels like somewhere worth returning to.
