About Nucky Nuciano

Nucky arrived in Fallcrest the way most traveling bards do — performing drunk at the Blue Moon Alehouse, working the crowd, and watching for the next opportunity to become somebody worth knowing. He found it, more or less accidentally, when the tavern nearly erupted into a riot and he ended up standing next to people who could handle themselves.

That was enough to get him through the door. What kept him there was harder to articulate. He is fast, adaptable, and charming in the way that people who grew up with very little tend to be — because charm is cheaper than a sword and more reliable than luck. He wants to be important. He wants to be remembered. The Copper Piece Gang is, so far, the most interesting vehicle for that he has found.

Fighting alongside the gang looks different for Nucky than it does for anyone else. He has been launched across rooms by Rae, ridden into combat on Zarnak’s back, caught mid-fall by whoever was closest, and deployed as an infernal baby in a carrier during a City of Brass infiltration while maintaining full commitment to the bit. He has charmed a bee. He has used the brown note to seal a dungeon vent and buy the party a rest. He has climbed through a collapsed tunnel to peek into a chamber holding a bound demonic serpent, filed it mentally under leave alone, and come back down without telling anyone how close he got. He also healed a goblin leader mid-standoff and won the negotiation, which is the kind of thing that only works when you do it without thinking about it first.

The time room in the Scarlet Citadel was its own moment. He shot an arrow into a chamber that distorted time, and what came back included a vision of him slumped over a desk, apparently dead. The party noted it and moved on, because what else do you do. Whether the room was warning him, lying to him, or just showing him a possibility it found interesting is not something anyone resolved. He did not seem to let it slow him down.

The City of Brass gave him his finest moment in that genre. The party needed an exit. Nucky found a bureaucratic conflict — fire codes, inspection requirements, structural complaints, a notable lack of fire escapes in a city made of fire — and threw himself into it with a completeness that made the administrative dispute genuinely difficult to end quickly. Whether that was sacrifice or just Nucky’s instincts following their natural path is not entirely clear. The result was the same either way: the rest of the party got out. He stayed behind, still arguing, in a city that runs on heat and authority and apparently cannot stop someone determined to file enough complaints.

Adventure Highlights
  • His standard operating position in a fight: riding on Zarnak, getting launched by Rae, or being caught mid-fall by whoever was closest
  • The time room in the Scarlet Citadel showed him his own corpse slumped over a desk — the party noted it, he didn't slow down, and it hasn't come up since
  • Charmed a bee. Used the same social instincts on goblins, efreet guards, hobgoblin leaders, and one counterfeiting ring
  • Wrote the forged line that made Vladyn's official scroll state that Vladyn owed Zarnak a personal favor
  • Currently holding the City of Brass hostage in a bureaucratic dispute over fire codes and inspection requirements — bought the party's escape by becoming an administrative problem too annoying to resolve quickly
  • Stats and portrait to be added.
