Session 35

Crossing into the Feywild

2025-12-19

D&D Session Summary

This session opened with a recap of the party’s first real steps into the Feywild with Elara. After finishing a fight with a harpy near Bay Crossing, the group took a short rest and headed back toward the crossing to investigate the strange portal activity. Elara warned them that the Feywild was beautiful but dangerous, and that even harmless-looking things could kill you there. Animals were bigger, predators were more aggressive, displacer beasts were common, and two people always needed to stand watch. She also explained that something or someone seemed to be forcing the crossing to open more often than it should.

Instead of waiting for the portal to stabilize on its own, the party decided to help force it open from their side. Rae used arcane knowledge to study the crossing and discovered that lunar magic on the other side was being manipulated through some kind of moon ritual. Nucky added magical harp music to the effort, Krovuur helped enhance Rae’s connection, and the group even amplified moonlight itself with water droplets and sheer determination. The portal finally blew open wide enough for the party to cross over into the Feywild.

On the other side, they found themselves in a moonlit glade full of oversized leaves and immediately spotted a dusk unicorn. It had a smoky gray body, a spiraled horn, and fully black eyes. Naturally, Zarnak’s first instinct was to try to tackle and capture it. The unicorn responded by teleporting away, then teleporting again when pressed. The party also learned enough about it to realize it was dangerous, could lure strong enemies away from the group, and was probably not the best thing to chase blindly into the Feywild. That turned out to be wise, because the open crossing had already attracted other threats.

A burning harpy came through next. Unlike the earlier one, this creature carried a dangerous fire aura and blasted the party with a burning cloud attack. Once bloodied, its aura expanded and made it even more dangerous to approach. The party switched focus from the unicorn to the harpy, fought it down, and when it died it exploded, adding one more little bit of chaos to the encounter.

Right after that, the group heard two masculine voices calling for help. Being heroes, they went to investigate and found a giant constrictor snake engaged with two massive men. The rescue quickly turned into a trap. Zarnak was briefly charmed or hypnotized by the snake, which made him hesitate instead of attacking normally. Krovuur and the others moved in, summoned support, and started pressuring the snake, but then the battlefield erupted with strange effects and it became clear the snake was working with the two men. The men were repeatedly healing themselves, using moonfire, and dragging the fight out while the snake pinned down the party’s attention.

The group eventually killed the snake, but the two giant men were still active and dangerous. Rather than stand and grind through a long, ugly battle, the enemy pair ultimately retreated. The party survived, took stock of what they had learned, and harvested useful parts from the snake, including its head and hide for possible crafting or armor. After that, they took a long rest and leveled up, which gave the whole session a bit of survived the welcome wagon energy.

From there, the session shifted into exploration and investigation. The party reminded themselves of their core mission in the Feywild: figure out who was manipulating lunar magic, why the crossings were opening, and how to stop it. The Feywild itself was described as overwhelming and alien. Everything felt sharper, bigger, more alive, and slightly wrong. The moon was brighter and more powerful than the one they knew, and the woods seemed to pulse with consciousness. Rae, whose connection to moon divinity mattered here, reached out spiritually and realized that the lunar power in this place was immense. He felt closer to his goddess than he had in a long time, but it also became clear that something was wrong with the magic itself.

Other party members helped confirm that. One could sense that the moon energy was somehow out of phase, and another determined that the problem was not just bad moonlight or local weirdness. The lunar magic itself was being corrupted by an outside force, almost like a hostile energy was embedding itself into the moon’s natural power and feeding on it. They could tell something was corrupting the lunar flow, but not yet where it was coming from. The group concluded they would need either a local guide, a settlement, or a knowledgeable mystical creature to push the investigation forward.

They started looking for signs of civilization and found a stream, then followed it upstream. After about half a day, they encountered an elf named Rensifar, who was on his way to fish. Nucky handled the first conversation in his own completely normal way by pretending to be a wealthy halfling from another village who was looking for an elven wife, while the rest of the party acted as his attendants. That landed about as gracefully as you would expect. Even so, the conversation worked well enough to get directions to a nearby settlement.

That village was Tretoria, a small mostly elven town of about a dozen buildings and a few dozen people. It was simple, self-sufficient, and clearly not used to strangers. One building stood out right away: a whitewashed chapel-like structure dedicated to moon worship. The group investigated it, prayed, and started asking questions. The villagers explained that strange moon-related disturbances had begun about six months earlier. The moon would rise late, shine too dimly, or fail to cast shadows the way it should. They also said the problem had been getting worse and mentioned that a friend of the village named Zevron had visited more than once to ask about it.

That led the party to an elder named Hararti, who knew more about what had been happening and had spoken with Zevron directly. By the end of the session, the group had finally moved from broad confusion to a more concrete lead. They knew the lunar corruption had been escalating for months, Zevron was already investigating it, and Hararti likely held the next piece of the puzzle.
